Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

If you want to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead! .
